| Jan 26 | | | Re: “THE MOST UNDER REPORTED CRIME IN AMERICA: ELDER ABUSE!”
This letter is in reference to our discussion at RMB this week. As an Attorney and Professor of Law, I have recently handles cases where senior citizens have been victimized by caregivers, friends and family members. Seniors represent 11% of California’s population of over 37 million citizens and 13% of the America population of over 308 million citizens. As of January 1, 2011, the senior population in America is increasing 10,000 a day for the next 19 years. One in every seven seniors suffers from some form of elder abuse.
Elder Abuse in California is defined as “The neglect, exploitation or painful or harmful mistreatment of anyone who is 65 or older (dependent adult 18-64).
I have practice law in estate planning, personal injury, and business law for over 25 years. I am a trial lawyer and have been a professor of law for 30 years; teaching classes in personal injury litigation, commercial law, and intellectual property.
The title of my talk is “What Everyone Should Know About Elder Abuse?”
The talk is about 20 minutes long with a 10 minute question and answer period.

I have an interactive presentation, partially based on research, on women (55-75 yo) using technology (or not). I gave it at Peninsula Volunteers members and it went over really well. I would adjust it to reflect the Senior Roundtable audience, which for the most part is more technology savvy. The gist of it is we can really use technology to keep ourselves independent. Is this something you think would be of interest?
